The Forgeheart Caldera

An open-world dungeon thirteen layers deep inside the Forgeheart volcano. Three cave mouths, a named boss on every layer, and Firebrand, the Elder Fire Dragon, at the bottom. Lawless, full loot and contested.

Coming soon. In development. The Caldera is built on the server and passes its layout checks, but nobody has played it in a real game client yet. The boss line-up and tuning may change before the Forgelands opens.

The Forgeheart volcano glowing at its crater, embers rising into the aurora

Inside the Forgeheart volcano on Forgeheart Isle, the Forgeheart Caldera descends thirteen layers into the mountain's molten core.

An open-world dungeon

  • One shared space. There are no instances. Everyone on the realm who goes down is in the same Caldera, so you will meet other groups, and not all of them will be friendly.
  • Lawless and full loot, like the rest of the region. A wipe on layer 11 can cost a group everything it carried down.
  • It respawns. Trash returns about 5 minutes after it dies and named bosses about 10 minutes after.
  • Built for groups. Every pull is a pack of elites and every boss is a level-50 elite at the top rank. It gets harder the deeper you go.

The way in

Three cave mouths open on the flanks of the volcano. All three lead into the same dungeon:

  • The Strait Mouth on the west flank, facing the strait and the mainland.
  • The Tide Mouth on the east flank, facing the open sea.
  • The Ash Mouth on the north flank.

Each mouth opens into its own wing of the first layer, and the three wings meet at a crossroads above the first descent.

How a layer is built

  • Layer 1: three wings, each guarded by a boss, converge on a crossroads and the way down.
  • Layers 2 to 12: a landing, winding passages, a hall full of enemies, a junction with two side galleries, then a named boss guarding the only way down.
  • Layer 13: a last hall of enemies, then the Forge Heart, where the dragon waits.

From any landing you can climb back to the layer above. The first layer's wings and the Forge Heart lead back outside. From a cave mouth to the dragon is about 8 kilometres of main path, plus the side galleries.

Every room burns with lava pools, embers, steam and forge light.

The thirteen layers

Enemy packs grow from 4 to 6 as you descend, and their rank rises with depth.

Firebrand, the Elder Fire Dragon

At the bottom of the Caldera, in the Forge Heart, lies Firebrand, the Elder Fire Dragon: the final boss of the Forgelands and a world boss in its own right. Getting there means fighting through twelve layers of the volcano, and every other group in the Caldera, first.
